Dear FAD Members
I am honored and excited to be elected as the President of the Florida Academy of Dermatology for the 2024-2025 term. I would like to continue the mission and the purpose that my predecessors have established over the past 94 years of the FSDDS/FAD existence. I want to praise our momentous immediate past presidents Drs. Sima Jain, Joely Kaufman, Cyndi Yag-Howard, Brad Glick, and Matthew Knight for their incredible accomplishments on behalf of our society. I am proud to be a part of this organization and feel it is instrumental that the FAD continues to grow and to succeed with actively engaged members.
I would like to recognize our past-president, Dr. Sima Jain for an amazing job during her tenure. Dr. Jain’s passion for education flourished as she engaged our resident members with monthly webinars, authored multiple newsletters, and managed to increase our membership by almost 50 new members while hosting a record-breaking meeting at the beautiful Breakers. I would like to extend my appreciation to Dr. Jain, for her great accomplishments, dedication and perseverance during her term.
The Florida Academy of Dermatology is one of the strongest and most recognized specialty state societies. We have been the recipient of the AAD Model State Society Award with Highest Honors from the American Academy of Dermatology for over 10 consecutive years. This award is based on our society’s ability to demonstrate excellence in education, community engagement, patient support, legislative advocacy, while providing special programs to support our specialty of dermatology. We look forward to serving you this year while continuing to fulfill these goals.
The most impactful accomplishment of the FAD in the past year, was the passing of the Skin Cancer Screening Bill (HB 241), marking a significant victory for dermatology and the entire state of Florida. This bill is a testament to our collective efforts and advocacy made possible through our FAD Derm PAC and the tireless efforts of our amazing team. I would like to express my gratitude to our members who consistently and generously support our FAD Derm PAC as this bill would not have passed without your support.
I also want to thank Alyson Conley and her administrative team for their continuous efforts. Our meetings would not be possible without their constant hard work and diligent efforts year-round.
I have been a member of the FAD for over 20 years and am board certified in Dermatology and MOHS Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery by The American board of Dermatology. I earned my medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed my residency training at the University of Miami where I remain on faculty as a volunteer Clinical Professor in Dermatology.
I have been attending our state meetings regularly since I was a child, attending with my father, Edward Schlam, who has been a member since 1975. It has truly been an honor to watch our society grow over the years and become amongst the strongest state societies in the country. I truly cherish the friendships I have formed with my FAD colleagues over the years. I have had the privilege of serving as the former President of Florida Dermatologic Society, as well as the Broward County Dermatological Society. Along with serving on the board of the Florida Academy of Dermatology, I am the past president of the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society.
It is important for you to know that the FAD Executive Board is here to represent you, our constituency, and we want you to be stakeholders in everything that we do, because all of the work conducted behind the scenes by the Executive Board is done on your behalf. We are an engaged Board in creating a Society in which we ourselves, as members of the Society, would like to be a part, but we would like to do this with the input of the broadest range of our membership. I look forward to serving you all this year. Please feel free to reach out to me directly should you have any suggestions or wish to serve in any capacity for the FAD, as our membership is our strongest asset.
Evan Schlam, MD

The FAD is honored to have the support of Chris Nuland and Jon Johnson who were featured in the 2022 City & State Health Care Power 100:
"The beautiful people turn to plastic surgeons – and the plastic surgeons turn to Chris Nuland, who for 25 years has served as general counsel and lobbyist for the aesthetic doctors’ statewide professional society. Nuland’s practice focuses on medical law, helping physicians and medical groups navigate compliance and advocate for reform in an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. Nuland’s experience includes having served as counsel for the Florida Academy of Dermatology, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, for the Florida Medical Association and for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida."
2021 Legislative Wrap Up with Chris Nuland, Esq.
Dr. Brad Glick and Dr. Andy Weinstein, along with the FAD legal counsel, Chris Nuland, spoke with Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez today about topics in the legislature. The FSDDS Leadership
team discussed Scope of Practice, Truth in Medical Education and COVID Relief issues with Senator Ana Maria Rodrigues and Jon Johnson, from the FSDDS lobbyist team.
Following the above discussed with Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, the FSDDS Board also had the privilege of speaking with Senator Rod Rodrigues. FAD President Brad Glick, DO and Immediate Past President of the FAD, J. Matthew Knight, MD, along with their team, spoke to Senator Rodrigues on some upcoming concerns in the legislature.
